Sony announced that the PSP Go is no longer going anywhere. Sony has killed production of their often mocked handheld after only 18 months. The PSP Go was always thought of as too expensive, launching at $250, and never got the support it needed from Sony to make an impact at that price.
A few months ago Sony announced the PlayStation Suite coming to Android. Their flagship device for this service would be the Xperia Play, the phone with a form factor similar to that of the PSP Go. I assumed the Go would be to the Xperia Play what the iPod Touch is to the iPhone, all the functionality, without the contract. It’s a solid strategy.
But before the Go could fulfill it’s purpose it has been killed. It was bound to happen especially with the NGP (PSP2) coming. We’ll probably have more details on that next month at E3.
Probably because it was a horrible idea to begin with.
That said, the UMD wasn’t exactly the greatest idea ever either.
